Yes. SmartFiles processes all image-to-PDF conversions locally in your browser. Your images are never uploaded to a server, ensuring that your private photos and scanned documents remain secure on your own device.

No. Our tool works entirely within your web browser. There is no software to install and no extensions required to convert your images.

No. Because the conversion happens directly in your browser's memory, we have no access to your data, and we do not store, view, or analyze your files.

We utilize efficient WebAssembly modules within your browser to handle image processing. This turns your browser into a local, powerful desktop-like application that creates your PDF without requiring an internet connection.

SmartFiles is completely free, with no accounts, sign-ups, or subscriptions required. You can convert your images into PDFs as often as you need.

Yes. You can easily drag, reorder, or organize your images in the desired sequence before converting, giving you complete control over the PDF layout.

Our tool supports most common image formats, including JPG, PNG, and WEBP, allowing you to easily combine them into a single, high-quality PDF document.

Yes. Since SmartFiles runs in your web browser, you can convert images on your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, or any desktop computer without needing to install an app.

It depends on the document, and it is the decision that determines whether the result looks like a considered document or a pile of photographs. A consistent margin, a consistent orientation and a sensible paper size do more for the professional impression of a file than any amount of image enhancement. A full-bleed image suits a full-page scan, while the same image with a margin reads as a document. Choose portrait or landscape deliberately as well, and normalising mixed orientations at this stage is far easier than explaining the inconsistency later.

No. Text inside a photograph stays a picture, because the page contains an image rather than characters. The PDF may look completely clear to read on screen, but it cannot be searched, selected or copied, which matters if the recipient expects a searchable document. If you need selectable text, run the pages through OCR software first and then convert the result rather than relying on the image itself.

No. Each image is placed on the page exactly as it is, with no sharpening, colour correction, straightening or cropping applied. A photo that was slightly tilted or slightly flat stays that way, so improving it means editing the image before you convert it. Conversion solves the format mismatch between what your camera produces and what an institution accepts, not the quality of the source material.

Transparency is rendered against a white background, because a PDF page is a printed surface and has no concept of transparency. If you need the transparency preserved, keep the file as a PNG rather than converting it. This catches people regularly because a transparent area saved into a format without transparency does not simply disappear.

Animation is flattened to a single frame, so only the first frame is carried into the document. The same applies to any other animated format. If the animation is the point of the file, it is better kept as an image format that supports it.

Resolution almost always explains it. A very high resolution photograph placed on an A4 page produces a file with little practical benefit, because the extra detail cannot be seen at reading size while the file becomes correspondingly heavier. Downscaling images to a sensible resolution before converting usually gives a smaller, faster document that looks identical on screen and in print, which is the practical reason to downscale beforehand rather than afterwards. The opposite case matters too: enlarging a small image to fill a page does not add detail, so a low-resolution source will look soft however carefully it is placed.

Yes, it is worth the extra minute. Convert three or four images first and check the result on screen and in print preview, because discovering a layout problem after converting eighty photographs costs far more than checking three pages up front. Rotation is worth checking especially carefully, since a photo that came out sideways takes a single click to fix and saves redoing the whole conversion later. Reordering is straightforward too, so set the sequence before you commit.
